Main objective (Aim):
To train Optometrists who will acquire profound knowledge, expertise and ethical orientation to practice the profession of Optometry in any part of the world. This is with the view to developing manpower for eye health who will play active role in the eye health team in the elimination of avoidable blindness globally and in particular, Kenya.
Specific objectives.
By the end of the programme, the student will have acquired the necessary skills, and able to apply comprehensive knowledge of anatomical and physiological concepts of the eye to effectively participate in eye care in the following areas:
1. Demonstrate skills in optical procedures.
2. Diagnose and correct refractive errors.
3. Fabricate, fit and dispense appropriate optical devices.
4. Participate within the multidisciplinary care team effectively.
5. Apply psychosocial, ethical considerations and community orientation in optical services. Assess, diagnose, manage or refer conditions that require the services of ophthalmologists and other medical specialists.
6. Demonstrate appropriate managerial skills.
7. Take responsibility for own learning and continuing professional development.
