
A Delegation from the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya visits MMUST.
A delegation from the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya (PCK), has today, 7th June 2023, paid a courtesy call to the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, ahead of the onsite audit of the Physiotherapy Programme run by the University. This is a follow-up visit made to assess the status of implementation of the gaps identified during the initial visit that was made from 27th February to 2nd March 2022. The exercise is in fulfillment of the Council’s mandate of advising the government on matters relating to physiotherapy training and practice.
Welcoming the Council to the University, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo stressed on the need for involvement of such professional bodies in the revision of the respective programmes offered in the University. He noted that the exercise will be useful in enhancing the quality of the Physiotherapy programme and in turn, help in producing competent graduates.
The Chair of the Council, Mr. Henry Opondo commended MMUST for the work they do with regard to physiotherapy.
“As a Council, we want to take this opportunity to recognize and appreciate the governance and efforts you are putting towards realizing the dream of MMUST as well as Public Health, in ensuring that we have quality healthcare professionals who are able to serve our communities in this dynamic world,” he said.
He expressed his delight in working with MMUST, adding that they will work to contribute meaningfully to the University’s aspiration of offering quality programmes and ensuring they keep up with the emerging trends in physiotherapy.
The areas of interest in the audit include the infrastructure e.g., laboratories that facilitate exercise-based treatment, electrophysical therapy, learning materials including books and the eLearning platforms together with the available resources, human resource among others.
In attendance was the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Students Affairs, Prof. Hussein Golicha, the Dean School of Public Health Biomedical Sciences and Technology, Prof. Edwin Wamukoya, The Chairperson of Department for Health Professional Education Dr. David Kanairu and other staff from the School.
Accompanying the Chair, the PCK team comprised of the Registrar PCK, Mr. Douglas Kotut, Dr. Wallace Karuguti, and Ms. Treazar Ogumbo.
